In Dharwad, election officials on duty to prevent election-related irregularities seized Rs 4.97 lakh from a passenger aboard a KSRTC bus near Tegur Checkpost, set up in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

According to Praveen Shinde, Magistrate SST, who was on duty on the night of March 25, staff at the check-post halted a KSRTC bus traveling from Bhadravathi to Nippani. During routine checks, they discovered that a passenger named Masood, 24, a resident of Chikkamagluru was carrying Rs 4.97 lakh in his bag.

When questioned about the money, Masood claimed to be a businessman supplying timber to sawmills in Nippani, Kolhapur, and Belagavi. He stated that he had collected the money after supplying the timbers. However, he failed to provide any documents to substantiate his claims, explained Shinde.

As a result, the amount was seized and deposited into the seizure account of the treasury. Duty officials have sought further action based on the report.
